Creation of Children's Play area and small meeting space:
At my previous position as a solo pastor, I was able to convert an unused storage room off of the sanctuary into a children's area/meeting area, for use of visiting children whose parents might want them to have a play area during worship, and for use as a gathering for small meetings. This enabled us to make use a space we had not been using, and use items from around the church which had not been used in some time. It also allowed us to keep the room usable on a continued basis for our regular congregation of older people, while presenting a welcoming area to any children who might visit and attend worship on special Sundays. We did not buy anything special or extra for this, simply cleaned out one room and moved items from the rest of the church building into the space, to create this welcoming and useful area! (see images below)
Ash Wednesday Prayer Stations
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, while we were unable to hold services together in-person, we were still able to observe Ash Wednesday as a congregation. Another church member and I set up Ash Wednesday prayer stations throughout our unused Sunday School classrooms, to create a reflective "path" of confession, repentance, and reminder that as dust created by God, we will return to the God who created us (see images above and to the side)
Literacy Program Workspace
When our local library branch was being renovated, an adult literacy program had to leave its normal workspace for several months. We partnered with them to use our space for the time they were displaced, and were able to transform two of our unused Sunday School classrooms into vibrant workspaces for the literacy program staff and its patrons (see images pictured to the side and below. Furniture was provided by the literacy program)
